General Counselling Questions
What is counselling and how can it help me?
Counselling is a confidential process that helps individuals understand and manage emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges. It provides a safe space to express thoughts and feelings, gain clarity, and develop coping strategies for a better quality of life.
What is the Counselling Process?
Our counselling and therapy process follows a structured and scientific approach:
Case Study: Collecting detailed personal, emotional, and behavioural history.
Mental Health Examination & Psychometric Tests: Assessing mental state and administering required psychological tests.
Formulation of Diagnosis: Identifying the underlying condition based on assessment results.
Therapeutic Intervention Plan: Designing a personalised therapy plan based on the diagnosis.
Implementation: Providing psychotherapy and, if required, pharmacotherapy through psychiatric consultation.
Follow-Up: Regular monitoring to track progress and make necessary adjustments.
Termination: Therapy concludes when symptoms reduce significantly and goals are achieved.
What is a Case Study?
A case study is a detailed clinical record of a client’s background, symptoms, personal history, and current challenges. It helps the therapist understand the individual holistically and identify the factors contributing to their emotional or behavioural concerns. Case studies guide accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
What is the importance of Mental Health State Examination (MSE)?
A Mental Health State Examination is a structured clinical assessment used to understand a person’s emotional and psychological functioning. It evaluates appearance, behaviour, thought process, mood, perception, cognition, and insight.
MSE is crucial in mental health because it helps:
Identify symptoms accurately
Guide medical/psychiatric decisions
Determine the need for medication
Monitor progress throughout treatment
Is counselling confidential?
Yes, absolutely. Everything you share in counselling sessions remains confidential. Information is only shared with your consent or when required by law (for example, if there’s risk of harm to yourself or others).
How do I know if I need counselling?
If you’re feeling persistently stressed, anxious, sad, confused, or find it difficult to cope with daily life, relationships, or emotions – counselling can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to seek support.
How long does each counselling session last?
Typically, sessions last between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the nature of the concern and the type of therapy being provided.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your goals and progress. Some clients benefit from a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing therapy for deeper self-growth.
Do you provide medical support?
