1. Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

Children with ODD are consistently irritated, or in an angry mood. They are always argumentative and aggressive towards parents. Initially, they exhibit the symptoms in just one setting, mostly at home. As it develops, it spread out to multiple settings. The issue has become alarmingly common as every single child out of 10, under 12 years of age, suffer from ODD. Girls are more prone to ODD, at a ratio of 2:1.

Symptoms:

It is absolutely normal to reveal oppositional behavior during certain stages of a child’s development. Keep a close eye on them and monitor the following symptoms beyond an extent.

  • Angry and irritated mood
  • Argumentative and defiant behavior
  • Vindictiveness( unwilling to forgive)
  • Rebellion nature
  • Deliberately annoying other people
  • Verbal abuse

2. Conduct Disorder

Conduct disorder simply refers to a pattern of behavior which breaks all the social rules. The misbehavior is repetitive and persistent in many settings like home, school, playground, etc. They cause evident impairment in the family set up. 5% of the children below 10 years are found to suffer from conduct disorders. They are generally referred to as “bad kids” in society. Conduct disorder is more common among boys in a ratio of 4:1.

  • Aggressive behavior

  • Serious violation of rules

  • Laziness
  • Substance abuse( alcohol, drugs, etc)

3. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

A brain disorder characterized by impulsivity and hyperactivity. 2-5% of children suffer from ADHD. Research shows that boys are more likely to have an ADHD disorder. Out of 3 children with behavioral disorders, 1 suffers from ADHD.

  • Overactive
  • Impulsive nature

  • Unable to follow rules
  • Go out of focus
